As a 15 year old budding musician, Derek Alan Davis started singing and playing guitar in local bands in his hometown of Hayward, California.
By the 1980's he was writing songs and producing demos. He joined The Persuaders in 1987 as the lead singer/front man and their 3-song demo, co-written with fellow bandmates caught the attention
of Jay Malla Maldonado of Malla Entertainment.
After Jay saw a live performance he
suggested they produce another 3 song demo.
This demo was then submitted to Mitchell Cohen
at Arista Records who then flew from NYC to
San Francisco to see them perform.
Clive Davis, the President/CEO of Arista, traveled to San Francisco as well, to see their live show. Between the demos and the energetic stage performances, Clive suggested they collaborate with another writer and Famous Music Publishing staff writer Jack Ponti came on board.
This endeavor finally secured a recording contract with Arista Records and a 6-figure publishing deal with Virgin Music/EMI which then led to
the birth of the rock band, Babylon A.D.
While signed with Arista, the band released
the self titled “Babylon AD” which attained
Gold status, followed by “Nothing Sacred”.
Both albums had top 10 singles on the AOR
Metal Charts, including “Kid Goes Wild”, the
title track featuring comedian Sam Kinnison,
for the Orion Pictures film “RoboCop 2”.
Over the years he honed his recording studio and production skills through time spent behind soundboards with producers Tom Werman,
(Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Mötley Crüe, Poison, et al), and Simon Hanhart (Flock of Seagulls, Tom Jones, Asia as well as many other artists and various compilations/film soundtracks).
Derek produced many of Babylon A.D.'s recordings, including the latest highly acclaimed album, "Rome Wasn't Built In a Day" as well as videos and all of his own solo works.
Derek has amassed a catalogue of over 100 original compositions, quite suitable
for other artists as well as video, film and commercial soundtracks.
